Let’s be real, being a single mom is freaking hard. There are days when all I want is just one hour, heck, even 30 minutes, where I’m not “Mom.” Just me, myself, and a cup of coffee that isn’t lukewarm because someone needed something (again).

They say we have to be strong, and you know what? We are. We juggle work, childcare, dishes, homework, meltdowns (both theirs and ours), and somehow manage to pull it all off. We walk by faith, even when that faith feels like it’s hanging on by a thread.

Here’s the thing: being a single mom can happen to anyone. Marriage doesn’t guarantee a happily ever after, and life throws curveballs.

You could be a seasoned single mom, or you could be new to the game, grieving the loss of a partner who was very much alive one day and gone the next.

Single dads deserve a shout out too. Society loves to put the pressure on moms to be the rock, but dads are human just like us. They feel the weight too.

So, to the single parent out there reading this, know this: You are doing an amazing job. Even when it feels like you’re just going through the motions, that’s enough. Getting out of bed some days is a victory in itself.

And here’s my secret weapon: a little grace for ourselves. We don’t have to be Superwoman (or Superman) all the time. It’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to need a break.

So next time you see a single parent, tell them they’re doing a great job. Because chances are, they really need to hear it.
